Ruby Rose Defends Taylor Swift From Katy Perry's Shady Lyrics in "Swish Swish"
Oh gosh, this shade-filled feud between Taylor Swift and Katy Perry just won't end, will it? Now, it looks like a decisive jab at Swift, in the form of Perry's song "Swish Swish," has been released for the world to see. The song has barely come out and already, Swift's friend Ruby Rose is slamming "Swish Swish" and Perry for dragging Swift through the mud.
Rose was quick to throw out some not-so-subtle jabs of her own on Twitter on Friday. "'Purposeful poop’ to ‘bomb a petit’ to a sloppy mess of writing over the top of Funkagenda..stop trying to make 'Wit..I mean 'fetch' happen," she tweeted out. Now, I'm not sure what the first part of that tweet means, but the second part — where Rose half-types the name of Perry's new album, Witness — makes it clear she's hitting out at the "Swish Swish" singer.
How do we even know that Perry's shading Swift, though? First off, it's pretty damn interesting that Perry collaborated with Nicki Minaj on this track about telling off naysayers and proclaiming that you're going to win despite all the rudeness lobbed at you by your enemies. Swift and Minaj had a bit of a tiff before the 2015 VMAs; bringing Minaj on board to add some extra spicy disses is pretty damning evidence that "Swish Swish" may be about Swift. Not to mention the fact that "Swish Swish" kinda sounds like "Swift." But let's get back to Rose.
Rose didn't limit her comments to just one tweet. Oh no, my friends. She dedicated a few tweets to airing her feelings about Perry being two-faced. A second tweet stated, "I just think with everything going on in the world to go from rebranding as political activist only to ditch it and go low... is... a bummer." Now, this again is a clear jab at Perry when you consider that her current Twitter bio reads "Artist. Activist. Conscious." It seems that Rose has taken issue with Perry's recent political activism, especially in the area of feminism, and how that contrasts with the potentially petty and shady tit-for-tat vibe of "Swish Swish." Admittedly, Rose makes a fair point there.
What do you think? Is this Rose justified in jumping to Swift's defense? Or did Perry just release an innocent dancefloor jam about nobody in particular? Take a listen to "Swish Swish" below and decide for yourself.
