RIP, Mariah Carey’s Amazing Rebound Game

In a move that has surprised no one, Mariah Carey and Bryan Tanaka have reportedly called it quits. They had been dating since pretty much immediately after Carey split from her billionaire fiancé James Packer, and going from planning a wedding with a super successful businessman to dating a backup dancer half your age is pretty much the best rebound game we’ve ever seen, but a rebound nonetheless. RIP, Carey and Tanaka’s relationship. It lasted longer than we thought it would, TBH.

Page Six reports that there were all kinds of reasons for their split, but the big one is that Tanaka had issues with Carey’s close relationship with her ex-husband/baby daddy, Nick Cannon. Carey and Cannon still hang out, party and take vacations together, and last month, they attended the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards together with their 5-year-old twins in tow. Apparently, Tanaka was so jealous, he would openly flirt with other women in front of Carey to get back at her for being friends with the father of her children, which is not exactly how adult relationships are supposed to work, so no wonder they’re over.

Other reports say Tanaka was getting really comfortable being Carey’s sugar baby, and she was (understandably) over paying for his designer clothes and jewelry.

Knowing Carey’s pattern, she’ll likely move right on to her next rebound. Since she and Cannon split in 2015, she’s been single for a grand total of about 3 seconds. It would be great if she’d give the single life a try, because honestly, being single can be fun AF, but we won’t be holding our breath.
