Janet Jackson’s Wallet Is Going to Benefit Big Time From Her Divorce

Updated April 11, 9 a.m. PT: It’s not like Janet Jackson is hurting for money. But still, her divorce settlement could net her $200 million, more than doubling her entire net worth.

Sources say Jackson’s prenuptial agreement with Qatari businessman Wissam Al Mana entitles her to $100 million if they stayed married for five years, and she just hit that mark. That settlement doubles if they have a child, and Jackson gave birth to their son just months ago. The timing is so convenient, even Jackson’s family is acknowledging how this looks.

“It looks like a money grab but it’s not about money,” a member of Jackson’s family told Page Six. “She’s never in a relationship too long. Her longest was [musician] Rene [Elizondo] and that was for [nearly] 10 years [1991 to 2000]. Marriage doesn’t agree with her. She doesn’t agree with marriage.”

One of Jackson’s security guards backed that up, saying the real reason she ended the marriage was her disagreement with her conservative husband’s ideas of how a wife should act.

“She loves to be in control,” the security guard said. “She ceded that control [in marriage] and she was not happy about it. She wants to get back to being Janet Jackson and not Mrs. Wissam Al Mana or being the obedient Muslim wife.”

According the Entertainment TonightJackson and her third husband, Wissam Al Mana, have split. The couple has been keeping a low profile following the birth of their son, Eissa. While Jackson has always favored privacy when it comes to her personal life, this news is sad to learn. There are no reports of any wrongdoing; in fact, a statement from a source reports, “[S]adly, Janet and Wissam have decided that it wasn’t working and to go their separate ways. They’re both busy people but determined to be good parents, even if they’re apart. It’s amicable and Eissa will stay with his mother, who is basing herself in London.”

Jackson and Al Mana had been together for quite some time. The singer and the Qatari businessman met in 2010 and secretly wed in 2012 (see, I told you she was secretive). Jackson, whose musical output has slowed down in the last few years, had chosen to postpone her Unbreakable tour in order to start a family. While Jackson had made promises to return to her music, she made it clear that she was ready to focus on motherhood right now.
