David Cassidy’s Nephew Has a Promising Future on The Voice

Bittersweet moments are part and parcel with The Voice, and there sure were a lot of them tonight.

The most heart-wrenching of this round of blind auditions arguably occurred when David Cassidy’s nephew took the stage. He nailed it, of course, but meanwhile, his uncle is unable to do the same due to a recent dementia diagnosis.

David Cassidy recently announced his intention to “put the touring aspect of my life to rest.” It was a tough decision, and Cassidy was understandably emotional at his final performance, which took place at Manhattan’s B.B. King Blues Club.

David Cassidy’s touring career may be over, but his nephew is just getting started. Jack Cassidy decided to try his luck on The Voice with an impressive rendition of Joan Osborne’s “One of Us,” which quickly got Adam Levine and Alicia Keys on their feet. Both were enthusiastic about the prospect of working with somebody from such an impressive musical dynasty, but ultimately, Keys snagged the artist.

Jack Cassidy has the full support of his family, but he’s not one to rest on his famous name. The great thing about trying out for The Voice is that the blind audition process validates his talent as a singer. He can’t just be handed the opportunity because of his name. As Cassidy explained, “They’re judging me purely on the merit of my voice.”

Now that he’s in the competition, Cassidy will continue to work as hard as anybody; if Billy Gilman has taught us anything, it’s that victory requires more than a famous moniker.

As the newest member of Team Alicia, Jack Cassidy has a promising future on The Voice and in the music industry in general. It’s sad to see his uncle setting aside his touring career, but exciting to witness a new generation of musical talent in the Cassidy family. The Voice contestant’s famous grandmother, Shirley Jones (aka Shirley Partridge from The Partridge Family) puts it best: “Now [Jack’s] gonna have an incredible career.”
