Sia, who is notoriously quiet about her private life, just confirmed via a statement that she’s splitting up from her husband.
Sia and her film producer husband, Erik Anders Lang, released the joint statement through a rep about their separation on Wednesday, less than two years after they tied the knot.
“After much soul searching and consideration we have made the decision to separate as a couple,” they wrote. “We are, however, dedicated to remaining friends. There will be no further comment.”
The statement comes as a surprise to fans. Sia has always been tight-lipped about her private life — she didn’t even admit she had married Lang until eight months after their ceremony. They announced their engagement on Instagram in June of 2014 and got married in an extremely private ceremony soon after, in August, at Sia’s home in Palm Springs, California. The morning of the wedding, Sia tweeted, “Omg omg I’m so excited,” but then didn’t say another word about her wedding — or even confirm her marital status — for nearly a year. It was during an interview on Australia’s Nova 69.6 radio show in April of 2015 that she finally confirmed that she and Lang were married.
During that interview, she also gushed about Lang’s relationship with her mom, so everything seemed to be going just fine at the time.
“[My mom and Erik] actually fell in love with one another and that was awesome,” she said. “It’s pretty cute.”
It’s been almost a year since Sia and Lang have been seen together in public. Their last appearance was at the Spotify pre-Grammy party in February.
