Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt's Lisa Lynn Masters found dead of apparent suicide
Lisa Lynn Masters, a TV actress known for her role on The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, was reportedly found dead Tuesday in a hotel room in Lima, Peru. Reports say that officials are treating her death as a suicide.
News site Peru21 reported that 52-year-old Masters was found inside the closet in her room, where it appeared that she had hanged herself with her skirt. Reports say that she had been struggling with depression, and antidepressants were found in her room.
Friends and family released a statement about her death on a GoFundMe page.
"Our dear friend Lisa Masters passed away tragically and unexpectedly in Lima, Peru, on November 15, 2016," wrote Ani Mason, who posted the page for Masters' husband, William Brooks. "Lisa’s genuine warmth, generosity and tenacious strength will be deeply missed."
Mason continued, "Lisa’s beloved husband William is shocked and grieving her sudden loss. In the midst of his mourning, William faces daunting financial challenges, including the substantial funeral and transport expenses for Lisa in and between Peru and the United States."
The page, which had a goal to raise $30,000, had already raised more than $40,000 by Friday afternoon.
Masters was probably best known for starring in an episode of the Netflix series The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, but she was a familiar face on TV. Throughout her career, she had roles on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, Gossip Girl and Ugly Betty.
