Michael Douglas confirms the worst about Val Kilmer's cancer diagnosis
There's been a lot of speculation about Val Kilmer's health in the last year, and Michael Douglas just confirmed what Kilmer won't say publicly: He has cancer.
"Val was a wonderful guy who is dealing with exactly what I had, and things don’t look too good for him," Douglas told Huffington Post while answering questions about working with Kilmer in the '90s. "My prayers are with him. That’s why you haven’t heard too much from Val lately."
In 2010, Douglas announced that he had throat cancer, though it turned out to be tongue cancer. After chemotherapy and radiation, he announced that his cancer was in remission in 2011.
Since early 2015, Kilmer has been facing rumors that he has throat cancer following reports that he was hospitalized and had surgery to remove a tumor in his throat. But Kilmer denied it at the time, posting to Facebook to explain — vaguely — why he was hospitalized.
"I had a complication where the best way to receive care was to stay under the watchful eye of the UCLA ICU," he wrote. "Friends have assisted who know my spiritual convictions and have been most sensitive and kind for the extra effort in making sure there’s minimum gossip and silly talk."
Toward the end of 2015, more reports surfaced saying Kilmer had been hospitalized, which he said was "totally untrue." He added that he had "no tumor or infection of any kind."
Since then, Kilmer has only been seen publicly wearing a scarf or bandana around his neck, prompting even more rumors that he's hiding something health-related. He's shared photos on social media without covering up, but hasn't addressed any more of the rumors. He also hasn't commented on what Douglas said about his cancer diagnosis.
