The search is still on for Kelly Ripa's permanent co-host on Live!

And now there's a new name in the running: Christian Slater.

Slater has already appeared on Live! as a guest co-host, and now he's telling Ellen DeGeneres that he wants to make the gig permanent.

"I love it," he told DeGeneres during an appearance on her show. "I live about, you know, six blocks away from there. It's one of the greatest jobs ever."

And as for how he feels about his potential co-worker, Ripa?

"I love her," he said. "She's amazing."

Slater is currently starring on the award-winning series Mr. Robot, but if you ask him, he can "absolutely handle both jobs." He wants the full-time gig, and he's officially going after it.

"I'm putting my hat in the ring. Why not?" he said.

Slater is a little late to the game, but a full-time co-host still hasn't been announced, so he could very well have a shot. Anderson Cooper was, until recently, the favorite to land the gig, but a source close to Cooper told reporters earlier this month that even though Ripa wanted him, he's sticking with his CNN show, Anderson Cooper 360, and he's officially out of the running to join the cast of Live!

Fans of the show are definitely anxious to know who the new host will be, but they may need to be patient.

"The show is going to stick to doing a round robin shuffle of guest co-hosts for the time being," a source close to the show revealed. "Kelly likes the dynamic right now, so they're not in a hurry to make a decision anymore."
