Don't expect Kelly Ripa to announce a Live! co-host anytime soon
Michael Strahan has absolutely no regrets about leaving Live! and is really enjoying his new gig on Good Morning America, but it's taking Kelly Ripa a really long time to find his replacement.
We admit that it feels like we've been waiting forever to find out who the new co-host of Live! is going to be, but there's a good chance that we still have a lot longer to wait because Ripa is reportedly in no hurry to fill Strahan's position. But is that really a bad thing?
"Kelly has always felt strongly that the show will need a permanent co-host and she is committed to finding one," a source told People. "But that process cannot be rushed, and so she is happy to take her time to make sure that the chemistry is right."
In fact, just last week she announced that she'd be asking fans to submit videos — no longer than one minute in length — explaining why they deserve to be in the co-host's chair next to her for one day only. Having a fan on the show will be interesting to watch, and Ripa will no doubt also have a range of wonderful co-hosts (which have already included Anderson Cooper, Andy Cohen, Morris Chestnut and Fred Savage) join her on the show in the future until around November, when according to the source, she is expected to make her new co-host announcement.
An Entertainment Tonight source echoed these claims, telling the publication that Ripa is really enjoying the new dynamic of the show.
"The show is going to stick to doing a round robin shuffle of guest co-hosts for the time being," the source revealed. "Kelly likes the dynamic right now, so they’re not in a hurry to make a decision anymore." A show spokesperson reiterated these claims, saying, "Kelly has always said that she wants a partner, and that hasn't changed. There is no timeframe for the co-host announcement, so there's nothing to postpone."
But is the lack of a permanent co-host fun and interesting? Or is it time that Ripa found a replacement and brought the show back to its former glory? We think the jury is still out on this one.
