Sources report that Alison Carey, Mariah's 55-year-old older sister, was arrested in upstate New York on Friday for prostitution. According to Fox News, Alison was caught in an operation in which she tried to exchange sex for money from an undercover police officer.

Other sources report that Alison is HIV-positive and homeless. Saugerties Police Chief Joseph Sinagra told the Daily Kingston that she identified herself as Mariah's sister when she was arrested.

Other reports reveal the complicated relationship Mariah and Alison have; sources say Mariah has tried to help Alison in the past, but that Alison keeps reverting to substance abuse despite her family's best efforts to rehabilitate her.

On Twitter, Mariah has been facing some harsh criticism since the news broke of her sister's arrest. Many Twitter users are calling on Mariah to give her sister money or help her in some other way.

"@MariahCarey help your sister out," one user tweeted along with a sad emoji. Another wrote, "@MariahCarey you aint shit girl your sister out here getting caught for prostitution, either give her some dough or pass her sone [sic] clients ma."

But if reports about the Carey family are true, and Mariah and her family have made an effort to help Alison, they shouldn't be blamed for this. At the end of the day, Alison's choices and actions can't be dictated by her family, and she can only be helped when she decides she wants help.
