Telling Vanderpump Rules' Scheana Shay to 'eat something' is unacceptable
Vanderpump Rules' Scheana Shay has been working hard to get in shape, and she's clearly proud of the results, because she took to Instagram to share a picture of her toned body. However, there has been an incredibly nasty backlash for one completely unacceptable reason: People think Shay is too skinny.
Taking to Twitter, she posed for a picture in her workout clothing, which she captioned with, "Getting some stretching in before my workout today! Want to take your workouts to the max? Grab some of this stuff...@hydroxycut #SP." But anticipating the hate she would receive over her slim physique, she also added, "snapchat: scheanamarie addressing you haterzzzzzz."
The comment section of Shay's post is filled with hurtful comments about her weight, with people like jessaannamua writing, "Eat a sandwich," and aidanfunk echoing these thoughts with their comment: "Eat something!"
Other commenters have been quick to tell Shay that she is "so skinny" and that she looks too thin.
"Omg you look so so so skinny," lisacollado wrote. Tbtrfli shared similar thoughts, writing, "Whoa- too skinny." And corina1870 commented, "TO SKINNY SRY IT JUST LOOKS LIKE TO MUCH."
"Holy shit ur teeeeeeny! Dont lose anymore or u will literally disappear! U must be a size 0!" nikkitejeda commented.
It's awful that people think it's OK to tell Shay she's too small and that she's expected to not find it offensive. And we've noticed a double standard in some people thinking fat-shaming is wrong but that commenting on a slighter figure is fair game. We all have different body shapes, and what's really important is that Shay is happy and healthy, right?
Luckily there are people like commenter rebecca.farrish, who have come to Shay's defense and addressed the double standards associated with fat-shaming and skinny-shaming — and she makes an incredibly important point.
She wrote, "I have always wondered why fat shaming was not ok, but skinny shaming is perfectly fine. ITS NOT! all women are built different, God made us that way! So instead of putting eachother [sic] down, why don't we use that energy to empower one another? Being made fun of, or shamed for being "too skinny" isn't fun, but allowed. Annoying. You look great @scheanamarie!!!!!!"
Really, we couldn't have said it better ourselves.
Update, Aug. 23: Shay is not going to sit back and listen to trolls criticize her slender frame, and she took to Instagram to taunt them with a new post.
Posing in a swimsuit, Shay captioned the image with, "Who wants to body shame me some more!? GO! #hatersgonnahatehatehatehatehate."
She also slammed a commenter who suggested she was too thin, writing, "No I don't think I'm too skinny. I'm at the same weight I was for over 10 years before I put on unhealthy weight. Think before you speak."
And critics are not getting Shay down, as she revealed that she is very happy with her body and her current weight. Replying to another critic, she wrote, "When I got married I was too fat in my dress [with] my 'back fat' and all. And now I'm too skinny. I can never win lol. That's why I do me. I feel the best I've felt in years!!!"
