Sharon Osbourne doesn't see Ozzy's sex addiction as just a punchline
Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne are hard at work trying to repair their marriage after a cheating scandal caused them to split earlier this year.
While the real work will be done in private, Sharon Osbourne's unique position as a talk show host means she's under a unique obligation to talk about their marriage in public. She's opened up about the scandal on The Talk before. But this time, she got emotional.
“He’s working at it. It’s hard because it affects the whole family, and it’s quite embarrassing to talk about. Somehow drugs and drink is more acceptable, I think. But when it’s someone who has a sex addiction, it’s embarrassing,” Osbourne said. She says she's "proud" of her husband for taking steps to deal with his addiction.
Despite getting serious for The Talk audience, Osbourne wasn't too worked up to make jokes. She's already poking fun at her husband's addiction, saying Ozzy "should call Tiger Woods for some advice." Laughing through the pain — hey, it's definitely one way to deal with a major relationship issue.
According to a statement from Ozzy's rep released earlier this week, the damage in his marriage goes much, much deeper than simply cheating on his wife.
"Over the last six years, Ozzy Osbourne has been dealing with a sex addiction," the statement reads.
That addiction, according to the rep, is what has really broken up Ozzy's marriage. After 33 years together, Ozzy and Sharon announced they were splitting up in May, soon after it was revealed publicly that Ozzy had had a four-year affair with his hair colorist, Michelle Pugh. Earlier this month, though, they announced that they were making attempts to reconcile — according to an interview Ozzy did on Good Morning America, their marriage is now "back on track."
But getting it there has been taking hard work on Ozzy's part, his rep revealed.
"Since his relationship with Ms. Pugh was exposed, Ozzy has gone into intense therapy," the statement continued. "Ozzy is mortified at what his behavior has done to his family. He thanks God that his incredible wife Sharon is at his side to support him."
Pugh, however, denies Ozzy's claims that a sex addiction caused him to cheat on his wife. In an interview with People magazine, Pugh claimed that she and Ozzy knew each other professionally for more than a year before he started to pursue her. She claims that their relationship was "private" and "never with 'Ozzy the rock god.' My relationship was with this really nice, sweet, funny and cool guy... John from England. He made it clear to me and asked me not to see anyone else. We had a very real relationship."
