If you take a brief journey through celebrity Instagram, you’ll notice a trend: waist-training. An update on the corset, waist-training is a method of weight loss that utilizes latex instead of the bones and laces of yore. Famous folks such as Lindsay Lohan and the casts of the Teen Mom franchise are super into waist-training, and hawk it as a safe and viable method of losing weight, although some fitness experts have declared it useless and dangerous.
Kim Kardashian-West is such a big fan of waist-training that she’s finding ways to make it fashionable. Kardashian West was seen out in LA last Thursday clad in a Yeezy t-shirt and a belt, which seemed to be part suspenders, part bustier, and part waist-trainer. She’s also photographed herself on Instagram in her waist-trainer, which many female celebrities have gotten paid to endorse, but it seems like Kardashian-West might have a genuine love for the contraption, which makes exercising difficult.
It seems Kim Kardashian really likes waist-training, and if that’s the case, more power to her. I have a hard time jumping on that bandwagon, though. To me, waist-trainers contribute to the impossible standards women are (I guess) supposed to live up to in regard to our bodies.
