Teresa Giudice isn't the only RHONJ housewife to have a past with bankruptcy
There might be something going on in New Jersey — no one can seem to stay on top of their finances. At least, not if you’re part of The Real Housewives of New Jersey franchise. While Teresa and Joe Giudice famously went to jail for all their financial (and fraudulent) troubles, there are apparently other Housewives who have faced the same thing.
According to Radar Online, Siggy Flicker's husband Michael Campanella had a debt of over $1 million back in 2009. It was so bad that Campanella had to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in August of that year.
Flicker and Campanella didn’t get married until 2012, so she certainly isn’t in the exact same boat as the Giudices, but it was something that Flicker had to consider when they decided to marry. Also, the main difference between Teresa and Flicker is Flicker’s willingness to be open about her husband’s past.
Flicker once said toPalm Beach Post about her husband: "He’d been successful and had lost it all. We started talking, and he was not afraid to admit his failures. That was sexy to me."
From what I can tell, remaining open about financial troubles is the best way for the New Jersey Housewives to deal with the rumors. Jacqueline Laurita and her husband, Chris, started out this season talking about their need to downsize since he lost his company.
When people are honest, or at least don’t try to pretend that they are still rich, carefree and happy, their path to redemption is much smoother. Part of Teresa’s problem trying to readjust to life outside of jail is that she ruined all of her relationships before she went in. She can’t come back to open arms because people are still hurt by the deception.
No one judges you for being honest about the reasons you’re not perfect. They judge you for boldface lies. So in that way, Flicker is already way ahead of the game.
