Derrick Dillard was almost hit by lightning, and we're not joking
Well, no one ever said being a missionary was easy. Jill and Derrick Dillard have suffered through some health scares, and the latest red alert was a near-death experience for the latest Duggar husband. In her blog, Dillard explains the scenario that could have cost her her husband: a freak lightning strike.
"It's rainy season in Central America," she starts off, which means that all it took was a simple rainstorm to turn Dillard's walk back to the house with a friend into a near-death experience. A bolt of lightning struck the tree next to their home. Had a friend not stopped him, Dillard would have been walking in water nearby and could have been harmed himself. In true Duggar fashion, she thanks God and prayers for saving his life.
She also subtly addresses her husband's thin appearance, which has gotten called out in Instagram photos that show him looking markedly different than when he left the states. "Derrick and I are generally very healthy people," she writes. "But when you’re eating, drinking and living in a different place than the one you grew up in, it’s not uncommon to come down with the 'traveler’s stuff' or other bacteria/viruses in the local jungle area. No, we haven’t had Zika that we know of, but both of us have been laid out for a few days here and there, thankfully not both at the same time though."
