Ariel Winter's bath picture has earned her a ton of really harsh backlash
Over the last few months Ariel Winter has been flaunting her figure by wearing skin-baring clothing and posing for suggestive pictures, something which she's taken a lot of flack for.
It's Winter's body and we're glad that she's so proud of it, but not everyone sees it that way. And when she decided to post a photo of herself in the tub on Instagram this week, a lot of people were extremely unimpressed.
Posting a picture of herself covered in bubbles while on the set of her upcoming film Dog Years, Winter captioned the picture with "Today's office...relax everyone it's cranberry juice and I'm wearing lady bit pasties. #DogYears #set #movie."
The backlash has been swift (something which Winter clearly anticipated, given her explanation for the picture in the caption) and it's clear that a lot of people are disappointed with Winter's decision to share a picture like this, regardless of whether it's for her new film or not.
The comments include the usual slut-shaming with insults like "u became a whore," "kinda a ho bag now sadly," and "slut." But there are also those who warn that Winter will soon become known only for her assets, and not all the other things she's accomplished.
"I love how you want to be respected for your insight, education, thoughts, brain and not be seen as just a pair of tits an ass.... oh wait," magnum_devastator wrote.
v_kulchytskyy wrote, "ahaha worrying about drink being non alchoholic, meanwhile she is almost naked there....#priorities ahaha should have brrnn [sic] worried about being naked."
And jayhashem commented on how Winter was trying to shed her innocent Modern Family image. They wrote, "All these pictures she takes are for attention. Being an actress she kind of needs to stay in the light so she doesn't fade away. Her success relies on our attention. Ariel is in her immature hormonal teen years. She is an actress. Unfortunately destroying her "Alex" image from #ModernFamily. She clearly is taking her large breast to keep her self visible in an over saturated market segment..."
While there are very different views about whether Winter should be sharing suggestive photos, one thing she is doing is promoting body positivity, as well as a commentary on society's slut shaming. You may not like seeing this new, more sexual version of Winter, but having confidence in your looks and your body has no bearing on your morals, and this does not give anyone the right to refer to her as a "slut."
