Are Justin Hartley and Michael Muhney really doing a Y&R swap?
With replacement Mal Young running the show, fans are wondering if this will open the door for Michael Muhney to return to the CBS show. While Justin Hartley has maintained he is continuing with the soap, his production schedule with his new NBC drama, This Is Us, might affect his soap story line.
Viewers seem to fall into two camps — those who support Muhney’s return and those who support Hunter King’s allegations that he sexually harassed her. No one has ever confirmed the allegations publicly, but Muhney did reveal he had a difficult relationship with Eric Braeden.
If Hartley’s NBC show turns into a huge success and the demands of shooting force him to leave the CBS soap, there is a possibility that Muhney will step back into the role of Adam Newman. With a new regime in place, there might be room for a second chance.
Even though this is hypothetical thinking at the moment by fans, you know that the producers probably have a backup plan in place. With Adam Newman always having a prominent story line, the writers don’t want to push integral characters into the background.
Hartley did a great job bouncing between the Mistresses set and Y&R during the 2014-2015 television season, so there is no doubt he’s capable of doing it again. However, This Is Us continues to be one of the buzziest new shows for fall 2016. It’s possible that the drama will bring him a new level of success in his career.
If that happens, will the Adam Newman actor swap happen? Will Y&R take the risk of having Muhney back on the set? Muhney does have strong support from many longtime fans, but what about those fans who still oppose his return?
There are lots of questions to be answered, but it certainly adds an air of excitement to CBS daytime.
