The saga of Kathryn Dennis’ love life on Southern Charm is very complicated and confusing. For two seasons, she was made to look like the crazy girl who Whitney Sudler-Smith hated because she wasn’t up to his Southern standards. In this third season, Craig Conover threw it out there that maybe Sudler-Smith was mad because he had feelings for Dennis and was mad that she didn’t choose him.
When Conover opened the conversation, everyone was drinking and it blew up in his face. So I was interested to see how Sudler-Smith would handle the topic at the reunion, when he was sober and able to articulate his side of things. What I saw, instead of an explanation, was a grown man acting like a toddler.
Andy Cohen, the reunion’s host, pointed out that the footage clearly shows that Dennis and Sudler-Smith spent more than one night together, despite the story he told. Instead of coming clean about the fact that they were getting close and admitting she chose to spend time with Thomas Ravenel over him, Sudler-Smith stayed silent and let Dennis be slut-shamed for three seasons.
Even on the reunion, all he could admit to was that “maybe” it was more than one night. His ego wouldn’t let him man up and admit to feelings or that he wasn’t the most desirable man in Charleston. His entire demeanor was just gross. Especially when you hear him preach about how a refined Southern person acts. He acted in the exact opposite way of what he and his mom constantly talk about.
He was by far the most embarrassing person on a stage that included a man who spent time in prison and one who forgot to write his thesis paper for law school.
While I still don’t think Dennis behaved in the most adult fashion, at least she was telling the truth and owning her behavior — something Sudler-Smith could take note of.
