Commitment issues may have caused Demi Lovato & Wilmer Valderrama's split
If he liked it, then he should've put a ring on it! Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama told fans they decided to break up after six years of dating because they realized they were "better as best friends," as they said in a statement. However, a new report claims that commitment issues are what really caused the pair's split.
Lovato reportedly wanted to tie the knot with Valderrama, but he wasn't ready to commit, according to a report by OK! magazine.
"Demi wanted a ring, but Wilmer wasn't ready to get married," a source said. "She didn't want to wait around anymore, so they decided to part ways."
News that Lovato reportedly wanted to get married to Valderrama isn't too surprising. When Lovato was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in February 2016, DeGeneres asked her about rumors that she was already engaged to the actor.
"I don't see a ring. I wouldn't mind if I saw one," Lovato said with a laugh. "But there's time for everything. You know, we've been together this long, and it's like, obviously I'm not going anywhere and vice versa."
The pair announced their split with a statement on social media at the beginning of June 2016: "After almost six loving and wonderful years together, we have decided to end our relationship. This was an incredibly difficult decision for both of us, but we have realized more than anything that we are better as best friends. We will always be supportive of one another. Thank you to everyone who has offered us kindness and support over the years."
One of Lovato's other best friends, Nick Jonas, also recently opened up about the pair's split, saying that it came at the right time.
"I've built an amazing friendship with Wilmer over the years and I have so much love for him," Jonas told Entertainment Tonight. "Demi is one of my closest friends in the world, so I'm here for her and for both of them, really."
Jonas also said that since he and Lovato are about to head out on their Future Now tour, "it's probably the best timing for everybody."
