Todd Chrisley is not the most masculine of men. He has a particular way of dressing and speaking that comes across a bit more feminine than the typical Southern man. It’s led some people to wonder whether or not he’s actually gay. Chrisley has heard the rumors and has mostly decided to ignore them, until tonight.
While getting treatment for an illness in tonight’s episode, Chrisley told the audience, “Contrary to popular belief, I don’t want anything to penetrate me.” He delivered the line in his signature sassy Southern draw, which made the joke even more hilarious.
Chrisley is obviously not gay; his show is based on his marriage to his wife, Julie, and his kids. But rather than getting upset about the rumors and throwing a fit, he’s decided to have a sense of humor about the whole thing. He seems to understand why people might assume that he’s attracted to men, but he also gets that it’s not an insulting assumption. He’s completely confident in who he is and who he loves. It’s a stance that more men should take.
And honestly, after watching the way Todd loves his wife, it’s hard to imagine saying he loves anyone but her. He looks at her with pure adoration in his eyes. He even helped write, record and perform a love song for her for her birthday just because he wanted to show her how much she was loved and appreciated. It’s those small and grand gestures that he does for Julie each episode that prove he’s totally and completely in love with and attracted to his wife.
In the meantime, hearing him poke fun at the rumors, and anyone who spreads them, is something I think they should include more of in Chrisley Knows Best. Not only to show that the rumor is not offensive at all, but also to provide even more humor to the show.
