That wasn't an engagement ring on Bristol Palin's finger — she's actually married

Bristol Palin found the best solution for the prying eyes of the public into her love life: Get married and don’t tell anyone. That’s right, the ring you saw on her finger recently wasn’t just an engagement ring. She and Dakota Meyer are actually married. Despite splitting up a little over a year ago, the couple seems to have worked out their major issues enough to tie the knot.

On Wednesday, the couple talked to Entertainment Tonight, announcing their news. They said, "Life is full of ups and downs but in the end, you'll end up where you're supposed to be. We are so happy to share with loved ones the wonderful news that we got married!"

They went on to say, "Hard work and God's grace are the foundation of our new life together, and with the love and support of our family we know we can get through anything.”

It sounds like they have a great foundation to their relationship, and keeping it out of the public eye at the very beginning was probably the smartest move they could have made. The first year of marriage can be extremely difficult for anyone, but I’m sure it can be almost impossible if you’re Sarah Palin’s daughter.

It’s not totally surprising coming from Bristol, though. She’s never had a hard time standing up to people who are eager to comment on her life. Last year, when she announced that she was pregnant, she also included that she “didn’t want any lectures” in her blog post addressing the news.

So, not only is she tired of dealing with rumors and opinions, she definitely doesn’t let any of it dictate the way she lives her life. And for that I say good job!

People seem to forget that her mom was the one who thrust the family into the spotlight; Bristol just wanted to stay anonymous in Alaska. So the fact that she’s fighting back on the mean treatment she’s received for living her life is great. We wish them both nothing but the best in their marriage.
