Brie Larson is reportedly in negotiations to take on a huge new role of superhero proportions.
Larson is in negotiations to play Captain Marvel in a stand-alone superhero flick, according to Variety. Despite the fact that she won an Oscar for Room, a big-budget action movie like this would put more eyes on her than ever before.
But before that happens, we can expect to see Captain Marvel — aka Air Force pilot Carol Danvers, whose DNA is fused with that of an alien after an accident — be introduced to the franchise universe as a smaller role in another movie, as yet to be determined. According to Screenrant.com, that movie could be Avengers: Infinity War — Part 1 (working title) in 2018, before starring in her own movie in 2019.
Screenrant also has some ideas of what Larson could look like in character.
In addition to being a great boost for Larson’s career, a Captain Marvel movie is a great boost for female comic lovers everywhere. Having an entire film revolve around a strong female character is rare enough, but especially so in the comic book genre. Larson is smart to not settle for a role as a sidekick.
The Twitterverse seems to be pretty happy with the news.
Neither Larson nor Marvel have commented on the report.
