Amber Heard reportedly fought for her marriage, but nothing changed
Amber Heard and Johnny Depp's divorce has turned very ugly, and there are a lot of allegations being made about both parties. But while the rumor mill keeps turning about what really went wrong in the relationship, a source close to Heard has revealed how she is doing amid her divorce.
"This has been incredibly upsetting for Amber, but she knows she is doing the right thing," a source shared with E! News. "It has been very traumatic for her to finally speak out, but she needs to do what she can to protect herself."
Days after filing for divorce from Depp, Heard was granted a domestic violence restraining order, E! News reports — although people close to Depp have slammed the suggestions that he could have been violent with Heard. Depp himself has not addressed the claims, but his rep did release a statement to E! News.
"Given the brevity of this marriage and the most recent and tragic loss of his mother, Johnny will not respond to any of the salacious false stories, gossip, misinformation and lies about his personal life," Depp's rep told the outlet. "Hopefully the dissolution of this short marriage will be resolved quickly."
In court documents obtained by E! News, Heard alleged that she had endured "excessive emotional, verbal and physical abuse from Johnny, which has included angry hostile, humiliating and threatening assaults to me whenever I questioned his authority or disagreed with him."
But she reportedly fought to keep her marriage to Depp alive because she had always hoped that things would, one day, get better.
"She tried to hide what was really happening in the marriage from most of her friends because she wanted to believe that it would get better. That things would change. But ultimately, they didn't, and so she had to do what she did to stop it," the source shared. "What she has done has taken a lot of courage."
