Sister Wives' Meri Brown is still with Kody, but should she be?
On tonight's episode of Sister Wives, Meri is the main focus as she works to repair all of the broken trust caused by her catfishing scandal. I feel for her as she spends time creating artwork for each of her sister wives to represent their entire family, as well as each individual family. When she comments that Robyn and Kody's painting will feature palm trees on a sunrise to represent the fact that they are in the "sunrise" of their relationship, I wanted to reach through the television and shake Meri.
But Meri is no fool — she knows what she is saying. Kody and Robyn are still in the honeymoon phase, and Meri and Kody are not. Meri and Kody are polite to one another, but it's pretty obvious that their relationship is no longer a romantic one. He doesn't even get that angry that she was seeking the comfort of an online stranger over him; instead, he just seems confused by her loneliness. Poor, clueless Kody. For seven seasons, viewers have wondered how he could be so completely daft about Meri's insecurities, and now that she went out and found someone to pay attention to her, he honestly seems befuddled that it was even necessary. After all Meri did for him, offering a legal divorce so he could civilly marry Robyn, he still just plods along as if he is a dream husband for all four of his wives.
In addition to painting apology trees, Meri knows she needs to heal her relationships with everyone. She tells the camera during her confessional, "I broke trust with a lot of people just because I handled things so poorly."
But Meri really wants everyone to know that she is still here. That she wants to stay. That no matter her insecurities, she is dedicated to the family, to her sister wives and even to Kody, no matter how badly their relationship has become. Ultimately, Meri stays for the kids. She tells the camera that they are her anchor. But I wonder if that's a good reason. As tonight's situation with Meri asking Robyn if she could bring Solomon with her on a road trip to see Mariah proves, these other children are not really her kids. When Robyn tells her no, Meri is devastated. Of course, Robyn has every right to say no, but that just drove the dagger into Meri's heart that much further. I know Meri loves all of those children as if they were her own, but when it comes down to it, they are just her husband's children with other women.
What do you think? Should Meri make it work for the sake of the children?
