After three years of marriage, Kailyn Lowry and Javi Marroquin have officially called it quits. Although there have been many rumors before about the future of their relationship, Lowry herself confirmed the news on Tuesday that they were going their separate ways.
“We’re trying to do the best we can for our kids because they are what really matters,” she said about the split. The couple has a son, Lincoln, 2, and Lowry has a second son, Isaac, 6, with her ex Jo Rivera. Marroquin and Isaac shared a special bond because he helped coparent Isaac from a young age. Isaac even called Marroquin “Daddy.”
Despite raising their children together, Lowry and Marroquin couldn’t seem to get along. On Teen Mom 2, the couple was regularly shown fighting, hanging up on each other and not building trust together.
“We run out of things to talk about — I can’t relate to what he says,” Lowry was shown saying in the most recent episode of the show while talking about staying in touch with Marroquin while he was deployed.
Beyond not sharing common interests outside of their children, Lowry constantly talked about her frustration with Marroquin’s lack of trust, and he repeatedly accused her of not showing enough emotion or being vulnerable with him. It was rare that the two got through an episode without fighting.
All that could be blamed on editing, of course, but if the fights weren’t actually happening, MTV wouldn’t have anything to edit together. The two just didn’t seem to go together well despite trying the best they could to have open communication and trust. Now that they’ve finally split, they may be able to put aside their differences and give Lincoln and Isaac the parents they deserve — ones who aren’t always living in awkward tension.
It worked for Lowry and Rivera, so hopefully she can make it happen with Marroquin. Whatever happens between the two of them, at least it’s clear that they will dedicate themselves to being great parents.
