Kristen Stewart clearly isn't hiding her girlfriend — she's being an advocate
Kristen Stewart is no stranger to invasive interview questions or being hounded by paparazzi. When you sign on to be Bella from Twilight, you pretty much lose all your privacy. So when Variety asked her about her relationship with her girlfriend, she handled it like a champ.
When she was asked about her relationship, she said bluntly, "When I was dating a guy, I would never talk about my relationships. I feel the same now.”
But she made it clear that everyone knew her silence wasn’t due to shame or fear of judgment. It’s just to maintain a sense of privacy. She said, "I'm not hiding shit. As much as I want to protect myself, it's not about hiding. As soon as you start throwing up so many walls, you cannot see over them yourself, so you just start isolating in a way that's not honest. I definitely found where I'm comfortable. I don't take credit for that."
Sounds like her girlfriend has given her confidence to embrace all of herself and make sure that she uses her platform to be an advocate. She said that it was “so important” to be involved in LGBT rights and to be seen and photographed with her girlfriend because she wants to send the message that she is proud of her relationship.
Although just two days ago there were rumors that Stewart and her girlfriend Soko broke up, it’s still an important message to get out. Stewart has young fans who are either questioning their sexuality themselves or have a best friend who is, and her taking a stand is giving them permission to accept themselves. Even if no one gets details about the actual relationship, the message is important. And Stewart is doing a great job of getting that message to everyone who is listening.
