Sorry Gwen Stefani: George Clooney & Julia Roberts stole your spotlight
When James Corden asked Gwen Stefani to be a guest on his Carpool Karaoke, he probably had no idea that she would bring the most epic surprise guests along with her. In last night's episode of The Late Late Show, Julia Roberts and George Clooney showed up to sing along with Corden and Stefani. Naturally, fans went crazy as soon as they saw Roberts and Clooney.
Because they’re two of the biggest stars in the world, they could have definitely just sat in the back and looked calm, cool and collected, but they were game to sing along and have some fun. The four sang along to Stefani’s biggest hit “Hollaback Girl”. And really, how can you not when Corden is in the car? He’s so charming and full of joy that you feel like a bad person if you’re not having as much fun as he is.
I have to admit, as someone who was certain that Justin Bieber singing “Ironic” by Alanis Morissette was the best Corden’s series was ever going to get, I was skeptical that Stefani’s Carpool Karaoke appearance would even be worth watching. I was wrong — so, so wrong. Not only was she fun to watch but I was also reminded of how many great songs she has. How could I have forgotten about “The Sweet Escape"?
When she wasn’t singing her hits and making everyone remember why they love “Don’t Speak” so much, Stefani also impersonated different emojis and avoided Corden’s questions about what the eggplant emoji means. The entire thing was great, as always.
There was nothing but excitement and admiration from Stefani’s fans. Some people did criticize her singing abilities, but what is an appearance without some hate? Overall, Stefani secured her position as the new Queen of Carpool Karaoke, but Bieber is definitely still the King.
