Eminem's ex Kim Mathers attempts suicide
Kim Mathers revealed to a Detroit radio DJ that her October 2015 accident was more than just a drunk-driving accident — it was her attempt at suicide. On Wednesday morning, she called into Mojo in the Morning to clear up some rumors that had been circulating that she got special treatment because of her fame. The reports of the case were sealed, leaving many to wonder what actually happened.
What she talked about was more than anyone expected.
Mathers explained the situation, saying, "I sat at the end of a road where I knew that no one else but myself would get hurt. Yes, I drank, I took pills, and I hit the gas and aimed for a pole. I apologized immensely. I did not expect to even make it through that. I told [first responders] that I tried to do this on purpose and I’m so sorry. I never lied to them. I told them everything that I did.”
It’s a heartbreaking account of a woman who has been through so much and just felt hopeless. She went on to clarify that, “That’s why those records were sealed. There was medical information in there. It had nothing to do with the rest of the case… after I realized how much drama it was causing, I willingly unsealed the files so that everybody can know my personal business, yet again.”
As a mother of three daughters and someone whose dirty laundry has been aired in front of the entire world for decades now, it’s understandable for her to want to keep this deeply personal matter to herself. It is brave of her to address the issue and open herself up to commentary and judgment all over again.
She is getting support from ex-husband, Eminem (Marshall Mathers), however. She said, "He’s been real supportive. We’re really close friends. We’re just trying to raise our kids together and make it as normal for them as possible.” Kim and Marshall share daughter Hailie, Kim’s daughter from another relationship, Whitney, and Alaina, who is Kim’s twin sister Dawn’s daughter. Dawn passed away earlier this year.
It’s obviously been a difficult road for Kim, but I commend her for her strength and courage.
