Sonja Morgan's drinking shouldn't be a RHONY plotline unless they take it seriously

Ramona Singer is a very good friend in the upcoming episode of The Real Housewives of New York, at least according to her.

In a classic Real Housewives plotline, one cast member is confronting another about drinking too much in a preview for the show. That's not to say it's true, just that we've seen it before — and it's the throwaway manner in which Sonja Morgan and Ramona Singer discuss the issue that worries me.

"I do love her, and I only want the best for her. Being with her when she's like this, it just hurts me," says Singer. "You're in such denial, it's so sad." That's certainly a fair thing for a caring friend to say. But if Singer were truly worried about her friend, wouldn't she take the conversation off-camera?

Morgan certainly doesn't seem to be hearing what her friend is telling her. "Thank you for sharing," she says sarcastically. Later, she does admit that she's been "going off the rails here and there."

Morgan is also letting fellow Housewife Luann de Lesseps stay with her for a bit, which the two agree could lead to lots of late-night binge drinking. They treat this like a funny problem, instead of an enabling issue for a potential addict. I understand the need for drama for your show, but if there's a fear that Morgan is really crossing over the line, let's treat her with a little human compassion and get her some help.
