This year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner had seats for celebrities, politicians and journalists from DJ Khaled to Emma Watson and Kerry Washington, and, of course, President Obama. But the most-welcomed guest of the evening? Gary, Carrie Fisher’s French bulldog.
While Tom Hiddleston and Fisher pose for photographers, it’s truly Gary who rules the red carpet, rolling over on his belly and looking right at the cameras. You can even hear photographers yelling, “Gary! Gary!” in the background. That’s true celebrity treatment. I wouldn’t accept anything less for such an adorable (and meme-able) puppy.

Like any good dog mommy, Fisher didn’t just take Gary to the White House. He went on a tour of D.C., complete with visits to the nation’s monuments.

As BuzzFeed points out, Gary isn’t just cute — he’s a therapy dog meant to help Fisher manage her bipolar disorder. Fisher’s openness about her illness and the pain it’s caused her family is one more reason to want to be her date to a dinner. “I was going much faster than everything else around me, and it drove me crazy. You feel out of step with the world,” she told WebMD, describing her days before diagnosis. Although she now has Gary and is taking medication, she shares what she’s learned: “The only lesson for me, or anybody, is that you have to get help. It’s not a neat illness. It doesn’t go away.”
