Once Upon a Time: I refuse to believe Hook can't be saved
Add Sunday's episode of Once Upon a Time to an already long list of heartbreaking episodes. After traveling to the Underworld to save Hook, that story line came to a close — or so it seems. The good news? Everyone got back to Storybrooke, including Hades. The bad news? Hook is still trapped in the Underworld. I know, it's as devastating as it sounds.
The episode opened up with Hades going to Emma and everyone else from the Overworld to help him save Zelena from Rumple and Peter Pan. Eventually, and thanks to some pleading from Regina, they ended up doing just that. In the process of saving Zelena, Hades also tore up his contract for Rumple and Belle's unborn child (or that's what it looked like, because you never know with Hades).
Soon after Zelena was rescued, she passionately kissed Hades, which also healed him and released him from his punishment in the Underworld. Now that he is freed, a fully formed portal opened up in the clocktower, which everyone could then use to travel back to Storybrooke. In addition to that, Hades also removed everyone's names off the headstones.
So, all is good, right? Well, yes, except for Emma splitting her heart and giving it to Hook. Yeah, she did that, but it didn't work — again. Apparently, Hook has been dead for too long and can't accept her heart — unlike David, whose soul never left his body, since he was only dead for a few seconds.
Now that Hades is a so-called good guy, he told Emma of a way to save Hook. Hades told them the story of Orpheus and Eurydice (from Greek mythology), who are the only two souls to have ever escaped the Underworld. They used ambrosia, aka the "food of the gods," to get back to the land of the living.
Of course, Hook and Emma set off to find it. During their adventure, Regina convinced Robin to hand over his baby girl to Zelena, who then went to the portal with Hades, while everyone else waited for Emma and Hook. As you can imagine, this was all part of Hades' plan. That's right, Hades can't be trusted. Surprise, surprise. I mean, did they really think they could trust him? The only good news is that Zelena is unaware (yes, I know her heart will be broken over the news), but I'm glad she is still walking the hero path.
Anyways, Cruella and the Blind Witch trapped Regina, Henry, David and Robin so they couldn't get to the portal. Oh, and if you think Hook and Emma found the ambrosia, you'd be wrong. Yeah, it looks like Hades cut down that tree. Again, all part of his plan. What does that mean? Hook can't leave the Underworld and go back to the land of the living. It looks like the only way he can get out of the Underworld is to find his unfinished business and move on.
If you think Emma and Hook saying goodbye (again) was heartbreaking, you'd be correct. There were Hook tears. There were Emma tears. Before leaving Hook behind, Emma told him not to make her his unfinished business and to not wait for her to show up, but to please move on. Hook also told Emma to not put her armor back on just because she had to lose him. Ugh. I'm starting to tear up all over again.
With that, Emma and everyone else went through the portal back to Storybrooke without Hook. Yeah, I refuse to believe Hook is stuck in the Underworld and/or won't come back to Emma somehow. I mean, viewers didn't see him move on, so his story isn't officially closed, right?
Well, that's what I will continue to believe until I see or am told otherwise. With that, excuse me while I go cry myself to sleep over Captain Swan being separated once again.
