No one's sure how to feel about Kylie Jenner calling herself an inspiration
"Business mogul" may not be the first words that come to mind when you think of Kylie Jenner. You're more likely to think "Snapchat queen." But much like her sister Kim Kardashian, Jenner is constantly having to name exactly how successful she is — and the rap sheet is pretty powerful stuff. In the new issue of Glamour UK, Jenner talks about her business empire, and some people just can't handle the truth.
The article had the same aspirational, "look at what she's done" tone we usually ascribe to a female mogul — but since Jenner is also known for her colorful wigs and her bikini photos, people are perhaps surprised to hear that, yes, she considers herself a feminist.
Importantly, she takes care of herself. "I'm a young woman, for one thing, and I don't depend on a man or anybody else," Jenner explains. "I make my own money and start my own businesses, and I feel like I'm an inspiration for a lot of young girls who want to stand on their own.
"I haven't had a dollar of my mom's money for five years," she says, alluding to her family's fortune. "Ever since I started earning my own money, I've paid for everything: all my cars, houses, clothes, everything. I like to know exactly what's going on, and I'm actually quite careful with what I spend. We all are as a family."
Jenner's interview didn't do much to win the critics over.
But if a girl wants to be a feminist, she can be. Jenner has the platform — now let's hope her actions speak as loud as her words.
