Emilia Clarke, perhaps better known as Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones, stopped by The Late Late Show with James Corden to call attention to one niche women’s rights issue that we need rectified yesterday. There’s a whole lot of female nudity on Game of Thrones, she said, and not much attention given to the men on screen. So… what’s the deal? And more importantly, when is HBO going to fix it?
“I feel like there’s a little bit of inequality that happens with women, this woman in particular, and what happens with the other guys,” Clarke said. “I think it should be even.”
Her comments earned cheers from Corden, who jokingly stood up to unbutton his pants and get the movement started immediately, and fellow guests Broad City creators Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer. “You guys need to come to terms with your own body images,” Jacobson reassured Corden jokingly when he said that penises were ugly.
The three decided on the #FreeTheP hashtag as a rallying cry for more male nudity on screen. Clarke’s spot-on comments about the show are just an example of how women are treated differently in Hollywood. Let’s pay women fairly, and if we can #FreeTheP while we’re at it, why not?
