The Voice gets interesting with a vet vs. newbie battle worth remembering

After a slow start, Season 10 of The Voice is picking up steam, and wow, there are some talented artists duking it out for a spot in the Knockouts. Sadly, the caliber of the talent means that good singers are frequently sent home. It’s the toughest aspect of The Voice, but it sure is fun to see the magic that happens onstage before the judges have to make incredibly difficult decisions.

Tonight’s magical moment featured two stars with radically different amounts of experience in the music industry. One graduated high school early and is now pursuing his dreams of working in music, while the other has been in the industry for years and has basically given up everything else — but he still needs his big break.

Laith Al-Saadi and Matt Tedder may differ in experience, but they are both incredibly talented. Either could do well on The Voice. Unfortunately, Adam Levine was only allowed to select one artist. Determined to get that spot on Team Adam, Al-Saadi and Tedder worked super hard in rehearsals.

It was refreshing to see Al-Saadi and Tedder take the stage with their own unique rendition of “Honky Tonk Woman.” Each contestant brought something interesting to the song. Tedder has been described as an old soul and this characterization seemed fitting during tonight’s performance. However, there was no matching Al-Saadi, who was the ultimate seasoned vet onstage. A very enthusiastic Blake Shelton claimed that Al-Saadi “sang [his] face off.” Pharrell added that Al-Saadi’s performance was “pretty magical to watch.”

Tedder had his fair share of fans, but ultimately, people seemed to agree with the coaches. Responding to the amazing battle on Twitter, viewers heaped praised on Al-Saadi.

Ultimately, Levine made the right decision and chose Al-Saadi. But it was still difficult to see Tedder eliminated, as he has so much promise. It’s never easy for somebody so new to the industry to go up against somebody who has done and seen so much, but hopefully, Tedder gained something from the experience. He still has plenty of time to make it in the music business, but now, it’s Al-Saadi’s turn to pursue his big break.
