Bringing Up Bates hinted at the newest family courtship tonight.
And no, it wasn’t between Lawson Bates and Jinger Duggar. Rather, Nathan was the one in question when his friend Ashley Salyer came to stay with the family.
More: Bringing Up Bates‘ first kiss overshadowed by even sweeter moment
“Ashley came to stay at the house for about a week,” Nathan explained during the episode. Adding, “We try to see each other about once a month if we can.”
Though he didn’t directly confirm that he was courting Salyer, he did say, “I’ve been thinking and praying over the past, you know, four or five months that me and Ashley have been talking. And, you know, there’s always things that you never know until they happen.”
Nathan’s brothers weren’t buying his coy response.
“Something’s up, I think,” Trace said while Lawson just kind of smiled at Nathan.
It sounds like the start of a courtship to me!
Of course, Nathan is only 22, so he has plenty of time to find the right girl and date before he ties the knot. But if he and Salyer have been talking for five months at this point, it seems like maybe Nathan is seriously considering taking things to the next level.
And the family loves her! Salyer was greeted by the clan, who ushered her inside with hugs and then led her to the girls’ room, where they excitedly showed off their recent room redecorations.
This isn’t the first time Salyer’s name has been mentioned in connection with the Bates family.
She and Nathan were spotted together back in October and reportedly met during their missionary work. During the outing, Inquisitr reported that there were plenty of “side hugs” going on. (The Bates family believes in strict courtship rules in which they save everything intimate, including their first kiss, for the wedding day.)
Salyer is a culinary student in New York, which explains why she and Nathan only get to see each other about once a month.
She also has a connection to the Duggar family, which she shared on Instagram.

Season 3 of the show promised that viewers would see lots of surprises from the Bates family this year. Could Nathan’s courtship be the first of many new dating adventures on the show?
