On the heels of Ben Affleck’s widely publicized divorce from Jennifer Garner, Casey Affleck and his wife Summer Phoenix have announced their separation. Affleck’s rep confirms to InTouch, “Casey and Summer have amicably separated. They remain very close friends.”
They married in 2006 and have two children, Indiana and Atticus. The rep confirms that they have been separated for a few months. An insider dealt some shade at Phoenix via InTouch: “She was having a lot of trust issues. They went to couples’ counseling but they just couldn’t recover.” According to the Daily Mail, the couple first met in 2000 when Affleck made I’m Still Here with Joaquin Phoenix. They dated for six years before tying the knot.
It’s unconfirmed how long the couple has been separated, but one reason for the delayed announcement may be to avoid the kind of relentless coverage that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner’s separation got last summer.
Garner recently addressed the split in a Vanity Fair interview, which is worth a full read. “He’s the love of my life,” Garner said of her ex-husband. “What am I going to do about that? He’s the most brilliant person in any room, the most charismatic, the most generous. He’s just a complicated guy. I always say, ‘When his sun shines on you, you feel it.’ But when the sun is shining elsewhere, it’s cold. He can cast quite a shadow.” Let’s pour one out for another lost Affleck marriage — they sound like doozies.
