There’s been a lot of chatter surrounding Affleck’s divorce (and the alleged affair that he had with the family nanny), and two days before his interview with The New York Times, Garner shared her feelings toward Affleck during a candid chat with Vanity Fair.
And one of the comments she made was about how being with Affleck could at times feel cold.
“He’s the most brilliant person in any room, the most charismatic, the most generous,” she told Vanity Fair, adding, “He’s just a complicated guy. I always say, ‘When his sun shines on you, you feel it.’ But when the sun is shining elsewhere, it’s cold. He can cast quite a shadow.”
Affleck opted to address Garner’s comments, albeit reluctantly, during his interview and admitted to being fine with her publicly discussing their marital troubles.
“She’s allowed to talk about it,” he said.
“She felt like she wanted to discuss it and get it out there and get it over with,” he told the publication, “so she could say, ‘Look, I already talked about it — I don’t want to do it again.'”
Affleck also had nothing but good things to say about Garner and confirmed they are both still on good terms.
“Jen’s great. She’s a great person,” he said. “We’re on great terms. I just saw her this morning, so that’s the reality that I live in.”
Affleck’s reaction to Garner’s comments is probably not the confession about his divorce that fans were hoping for, but, as always, he has kept a cool head and reacted like a complete gentleman. Although, he did note that the constant media attention has been particularly difficult for him.
“It never seems like a great time to have your privacy invaded,” he said. “Obviously, this is a particularly hard time.”
