Reese Witherspoon receives legal threat from angry business creator
The owner of a popular clothing and accessories company is suing Reese Witherspoon for allegedly stealing her logo design.
Jordann Weingartner, owner and designer for the popular online company I Love Jewelry, says Witherspoon totally ripped off the magnolia design she uses as her own company's logo as the logo for the Draper James line of clothing and accessories.
"She literally stole my magnolia," Weingartner told Page Six. "I drew the design for my Magnolia collection back in 2008. The flower isn't a traditional magnolia flower, it is my artistic take on a magnolia. My design actually looks nothing like a magnolia, and Draper James not only took the design, but also decided to call it a magnolia."
According to court documents, Weingartner claims she has a copyright on the "distinctive six-pointed floral design."
How similar are they? Judge for yourself.
Coincidence? Weingartner says that's impossible, because Witherspoon was made aware of the design when she was sent a necklace of the same design from the Magnolia collection.
"They basically ignored us," Weingartner said. "So, we're ready to fight."
I Love Jewelry is a multi-million dollar business with 30 employees and over 640,000 Facebook fans. Draper James had raised $17 million in investment money as of October 2015, according to Forbes, and has approximately 67,000 Facebook followers.
Witherspoon's publicist and legal team did not respond to Page Six's request for comment.
