Former The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kim Richards was reportedly left distraught by the death of ex-husband Monty Brinson, but in a powerful new interview, Richards opened up about Brinson’s death, and her final words to him.
After a long battle with lung cancer, Brinson died on Jan. 24, surrounded by his loved ones, and Richards was there to bid farewell to him.
“He was glad that he was going first cause he didn’t think he could bear it if it were me and then he had to be left here,” she told Entertainment Tonight.
The couple were married for three years, from 1985 to 1988. But despite their divorce, they remained extremely close over almost the next two decades, and the profound effect Brinson’s death had on Richards was not surprising.
Richards recalled her final words before his last breath: “I said, ‘I love you,’ and then I felt him just kind of leave, and it was shocking.”
She added, “I just didn’t expect it.”
Although Richards had not discussed her final words to Brinson before, she had previously paid tribute to him with two touching posts on Instagram, the most recent being one of herself and Brinson embracing.
Richards captioned the image with, “Monty … What an amazing amazing soul.. Husband , Father , Friend .. We miss U [sic] ..We were so blessed. I want to Thank EVERYONE for All the LOVE LOVE .. Your messages … So kind and heart felt. . You all mean so [sic] to me and meant SOO much to Monty . I know he is up there watching , reading. and listening thank you for all the LOVE.”
