When you’ve got a family of eight mega-celebrities, getting the spotlight all to yourself is next to impossible — and probably the cause for some major family blow-outs. We get to see a glimpse of one in the current teaser for next week’s Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
In the clip, Kendall Jenner answers a call from Caitlyn Jenner and she is not happy at all. Apparently, she heard news that Caitlyn publicly announced that she would be in the audience as Kendall made her first appearance in the 2015 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Apparently, parental support is not appreciated if you’re part of the Kardashian/Jenner kingdom.
Kendall goes on to say that Caitlyn is forbidden from attending the event and should be happy to settle for the afterparty. We weren’t able to hear what Caitlyn said in response, but it’s hard to imagine she was anything but shocked by Kendall’s reaction.
Later in an interview, Kendall explain that the blow-up wasn’t about not wanting her parents in the audience, but rather a need to protect her career. She says, “A lot of people assume I get jobs from my family, but it’s actually kind of the opposite: It made me have to work even harder to get what I wanted. So I get scared that if my dad goes, it’s kind of a media frenzy.”
I get where she’s coming from, and it would be impossible to get booked for a job if your celebrity status outshines the clothes you’re trying to promote, but I think there might have been a less confrontational way to get that message across to Caitlyn.
Then again, Keeping Up with the Kardashians doesn’t get millions of views each week by being level-headed and non-confrontational, so you keep doing you, Kendall.
