Vanderpump Rules downplays Jax Taylor’s criminal activity

During last night’s episode of Vanderpump Rules, Jax Taylor took his bad-boy behavior a step too far. Although he expressed embarrassment, he doesn’t seem to be treating the situation with the gravity it deserves.

Everybody knows that Jax Taylor has a bad-boy outlook on life, but he took this to a new extreme when he decided to get super drunk and steal a pair of sunglasses worth over $300. In Hawaii, that’s enough to be charged with felony theft. Clearly, felony charges are a big deal (as is the $11,000 in bail Taylor had to pay to get out of jail), but Vanderpump Rules has since been accused of making light of the situation.

Although clearly embarrassed about the situation, Taylor seemed sorrier he got caught than about his transgressions. Immediately after expressing regret, he blamed the situation on being drunk. While it’s true that alcohol can convince otherwise upstanding people to do some pretty stupid things, Taylor has a long history of irresponsible behavior, and honestly, stealing doesn’t seem that far out of line for him. Either way, blaming the situation on alcohol is taking the easy way out.

As expected, Taylor received a ton of hate on Twitter during and in the immediate aftermath of yesterday’s episode. Many Twitter users either pitied girlfriend Brittany Cartwright (who believed her beau when he promised to be honest with her) or took issue with her decision to remain by his side. Others thought that, in blaming the incident on alcohol, Taylor was (surprise, surprise), not being honest.

Lisa Vanderpump also had plenty to say about the shoplifting incident, but like Taylor, she was willing to make excuses. She created a video blog about the latest episode, and while it mentioned the incident, it didn’t necessarily give the situation the full attention it required. Although she called out Taylor for acting like an idiot, she also referred to the incident as a mere example of him pushing boundaries. Vanderpump doesn’t seem to realize that Taylor is not a teenager and this is a little more serious than boundary pushing. Given her relationship with Kim Richards, Vanderpump should know exactly what lies in Taylor’s future if he doesn’t get his act together.

Shoplifting may lose its shock value given Taylor’s past behavior, but it’s still a big deal. Hopefully, Taylor will view this as a wake-up call and make some drastic changes.
