Sofía Vergara stands up to advertisers who stole her photo
Sofía Vergara wants to be sure no one is using her photos without permission.
And now, according to Us Weekly, Modern Family actress Vergara has filed a $15 million lawsuit against beauty company Venus Concept in order to ensure it stays that way.
In her lawsuit, Vergara claims the beauty company has been using her name and image in advertisements without her permission. She's been battling the company over the unauthorized use for more than a year prior to filing her lawsuit.
The whole situation started when Vergara posted a photo to the media sharing Web site WhoSay showing her getting ready for the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards in August of 2014. In the photo, Vergara can be seen using a Venus Concept machine to get a pre-red carpet massage.
"Legacy massage at @drlancerrx," she wrote alongside the snap.
Court documents filed in the case reveal that Vergara is going after Venus Concept for using blown-up versions of that photo, along with Vergara's name, in advertisements for its products in exhibition booths, at trade shows and online, all without the actress' permission.
"Sofía personally prides herself on believing in what she sells and she talks about it genuinely," a source close to Vergara told Us Weekly. "For someone to just slap her face and image on something that she doesn’t even like, she just feels like she’s cheating her fans."
Vergara has legitimate endorsement deals with CoverGirl, Head & Shoulders and Rooms 2 Go, according to the site.
