Kim Richards is 'devastated' after ex Monty Brinson passes away
Absolutely heartbreaking. Kim Richards' ex-husband, Monty Brinson, has died after a long battle with cancer. Brinson died recently, at just 58 years old, after fighting lung cancer for years. In 2014, Brandi Glanville, Richards' former co-star from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, told People that Brinson's cancer had spread and that doctors discovered a brain tumor.
Richards has stayed quiet on the passing of her ex, who she's cared for throughout his illness, but her brother-in-law, Rick Hilton, posted a touching tribute to Brinson on Instagram on Sunday evening.
Brinson and Richards were married from 1985 to 1988, and the two share a daughter together, Brooke, who's now 29 years old. Despite their marriage being short-lived, Richards and Brinson have remained close throughout the years, and, as any fan of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills knows, Richards didn't leave Brinson's side while he was sick. A source has told People, unsurprisingly, that Richards is "devastated."
While Richards was helping to care for her ex, Brinson tried to help Richards with her addiction issues. The two reportedly became increasingly close over the years, as they supported each other in their journeys. Two months ago, Richards wished Brinson a happy birthday and expressed her love for him on Instagram with a touching photo and message.
Brinson also shared a message on Instagram four days ago, telling his followers that he was going to continue to fight his battle so he could "watch over his loved ones and take care of them."
Of course, it's completely understandable that Richards would be so heartbroken over the loss of her ex-husband and best friend, but hopefully, she'll be able to stay strong and continue to fight for her sobriety. From arrests to stints in rehab to a falling out with her sister, Kyle, Richards hasn't had an easy few years. She's been on and off the wagon for some time now, and hopefully, her family and friends will rally around her now to help ensure she stays sober and focuses on her health.
In a way, this will be the ultimate test for Richards. Not reaching for alcohol or pills at a time like this, of course, won't be easy for someone with addiction issues, but if she can stay strong now, it's a really good sign. No doubt, her family is worried about her, so hopefully, they're all waiting in the wings to offer their support and steer her in the right direction when necessary.
Here's to hoping Richards, her daughter and the rest of their family are doing OK. From the sound of things, Brinson was a wonderful man who was loved by many. Obviously, he'll be incredibly missed.
And here's to hoping Richards has the strength to stay sober in this dark time. Brinson may not be here to help her with her battle right now, but no doubt, it sounds like it's what he would want.
