Lady Gaga reveals how AHS helped her overcome her pain (PHOTO)
Lady Gaga has been lauded for her role as The Countess on American Horror Story: Hotel.
According to a forthcoming interview in V Magazine, she's had just as much fun doing it as fans have had watching her. Gaga guest-edited the 99th edition of the magazine, which has a full spread on her American Horror Story: Hotel costars.
James Franco interviewed her about her AHS role, which she describes as "a strong but dangerous woman." Gaga also confirms that she's working on a new album — and that the show has "really affected [her] voice." In a truly Gaga-esque manner, she describes how the show became an outlet for her to overcome her issues.
She said: "Here's what I will say: when I wasn't working on the show I was truly miserable because I had no safe house to get out any of my vices. Now I have a safe house for my vices so when I'm making music I just have a lot more clarity. I have a little less of an instinct to be reckless with my music now because I'm reckless in other places. So now I'm thinking more about what it is I want to say and what I want to leave on Earth. It's less an expression of all my pain.
"There will be some of my pain on the record for sure, but it will be more than that. My last album was riddled with a ton of pain. That whole record. It's almost like you couldn't even get to what it is. Now, the show gives me an outlet to put things somewhere, so when I get to the piano, I'm in a deeper place already. I have something completely other to explore."
The issue's 16 cover variations, all selected by Gaga, include some surprising, very untraditional magazine covers. Check out the cover below featuring Lady Gaga and her fiancé, Taylor Kinney.
As part of her guest editor duties, Lady Gaga helped curate covers featuring her AHS: Hotel costars. Cover stars will include Kathy Bates, Denis O'Hare, Sarah Paulson, Ryan Murphy, Evan Peters, Cheyenne Jackson, Matt Bomer, Chloe Sevigny, Angela Bassett and Finn Wittrock.
