The professional gossiper and Miss Universe judge appeared on a podcast Monday morning and shared what he saw backstage when the contestants were asked why they deserved to be crowned Miss Universe.
“I don’t know if the people at home could see this, but Miss Colombia was being a straight-up diva bitch,” Hilton said, slamming the runner-up. “[She was] rude to her translator. She was giving the most awful side-eye, throwing major shade… Miss Colombia was not happy with the pace or the way that the translator was translating.”
He continued, “She came across not just to me, but several of the other judges [as] bitchy and arrogant. It was that Miss Philippines gave a better answer.”
Miss Philippines and Miss Colombia have been part of the controversy surrounding the pageant since Sunday, when host Steve Harvey accidentally named Miss Colombia the winner, then later returned to the stage to awkwardly give the crown to Miss Philippines instead.
Harvey “did not do his job, period,” according to Hilton, but he saved his harshest criticism for Miss Colombia.
“I see Miss Colombia posting on Instagram that she’s the true winner,” Hilton said, referencing a photo the contestant posted to her Instagram account showing herself during the brief few minutes she was wearing the Miss Universe crown. “FOREVER YOUR MISS UNIVERSE!! COLOMBIA !!!!!!!” she wrote in Spanish under the snap.
Hilton, however, wasn’t having it.
“There’s a reason — many reasons — that she didn’t win. Congratulations to [Miss] Philippines,” he said.
