No matter how many accolades he racks up this fashion season, Kanye West and his insanely expensive clothing line still isn’t a hit with one major fashion designer and influencer.
Tim Gunn recently interviewed with The Huffington Post and had some pretty blunt things to say about Yeezy and his glorified sweatsuits. When the interviewer asks him what he thinks about West as an unorthodox newcomer to the fashion world, Gunn breaths deep and settles in for a big giant slice of hater pie.
“I think they’re a bunch of dumb clothes. Just basic pieces,” he said about West’s fashion line.
But that was just the tip of the iceberg in terms of how Gunn feels about the entire Kardashian clan. He said, “When it comes to fashion, I say to people all the time, if you want guidance for your fashion just consider this: if a Kardashian is wearing it — don’t.”
But he wasn’t done, not by a long shot. He continued, “I think it’s vulgar and I just think, given the amount of public exposure that the Kardashians have, to potentially be sending a message to people that ‘you, too, can dress like this’ — no.”
And if you are thinking that he might be only referring to the Kardashians and that Kendall Jenner — who has been walking in every major designer’s shows this year — got a free pass, think again.
The Huffington Post asked him if he thought Jenner had that model “it” factor, to which he replied, “I shouldn’t say that she doesn’t. I don’t know her, she may be a perfectly lovely young woman. I just feel that she’s tainted by the Kardashian aura of ‘yuck.’”
He’s not worried about any backlash from the Kardashians, West or the Jenners. He said, “Let me tell you, the whole Kardashian clan doesn’t like me, so no surprise there.”
