Miley Cyrus' new naked tour: Empowering or gratuitous?
Miley Cyrus might just be planning the weirdest concert ever.
The pop star is teaming up with The Flaming Lips to bring you a naked experience. Cyrus, the band and the audience will all be rocking their birthday suits. Not only will they be rocking out without any clothes on, but during the concert a white, milky substance will be spewed everywhere.
Wayne Coyne, the lead singer of The Flaming Lips and a longtime collaborator with Cyrus, announced the concert event on his Instagram, complete with a seemingly naked photo collage of Cyrus and his band.
He explained in the caption, "Oh f***..!!! @mileycyrus is planning a show where her, the band (us) and the audience are all COMPLETELY naked with milk ( well white stuff that looks like milk) is being being [sic] spewed everywhere. It's a video (in the works) for #mileycyrusandherdeadpetz song The Milky Milky Milk [sic] #flaminglips #waynecoyne #mileycyrusandherdeadpetz #theflaminglips."
Now, there is absolutely something beautiful about celebrating the naked body. Take it off if you want to. No judgment. (Assuming that it's at an appropriate time and place, of course.) But there is a huge difference, in my mind, between beautifully expressing one's self and being absolutely gratuitous for the sake of getting attention.
We get that the milky substance is for the sake of the song, but it all just sounds so out there and weird, it's hard to imagine that it isn't just a stunt for attention.
On the other hand, at this point, Cyrus seems to bask in the weird, unexpected and out there. So it could be that this is just the latest in her endeavor to embrace the nonsense.
As of now, Cyrus has yet to comment on the plans for her naked and milky concert.
