On DWTS‘ Switch Up Week, the first perfect score was awarded, Paula Deen flashed the judges and Maks Chmerkovskiy caught viewers’ attention as a guest judge.
Dancing with the Stars‘ Switch Up Week had everyone on edge — and it kicked off on a somber note with the news that Tom Bergeron’s father had passed away, though he was still hosting. On a more positive note, Maks Chmerkovskiy returned as a guest judge. His turn on the panel had many viewers wishing he would become a permanent addition, and we can think of a few reasons why.
Maks Chmerkovskiy is manly, good-looking, smokin’ hot, charming and has a sexy accent, as well. What’s not to like? The panel definitely could use some male eye candy, and if you don’t believe us, ask Bruno Tonioli.
During his years as a pro dancer on Dancing with the Stars, Chmerkovskiy took a lot of criticism for being hot-headed, occasionally rude and even arrogant. During his stint as a guest judge, he called it as he saw it for better or worse, which rubbed some the wrong way, especially if they disagreed with his assessment. Some viewers simply thought his honesty was reminiscent of the much-missed Len Goodman and appreciated it. Either way, Chmerkovskiy still makes no apologies.
Aside from the fact that he knows the other judges and brought some entertaining interaction to the panel, Chmerkovskiy is an accomplished pro dancer who knows what he’s talking about from a technical standpoint. Overall, fans thought he would have a great deal to offer as a regular judge.
Highlights of the night
American hero Andy Skarlatos paired with Emma Slater, who incidentally injured his nose with her elbow in practice, and there was an instant attraction between the two. So much so that their rumba was incredibly steamy and Erin Andrews set them up to go on a date before they got their scores!
Paula Deen, who has been no stranger to controversy both on and off DWTS, raised everyone’s eyebrows when she lifted her skirt during her jive with Mark Ballas and then flashed the judges, as well.
Tonight’s scores on Dancing with the Stars were added to last week’s scores to establish the leaderboard going into next week’s elimination. Deen was on the bottom again, with Bindi Irwin on the top, despite the fact that Alexa PenaVega’s intense tango with Derek Hough was awarded the first perfect score of the season.
Bindi Irwin danced an energetic quickstep with Val Chmerkovskiy that had the judges raving and calling her a ray of sunshine. After seeing the routine, many fans decided Irwin was a shoo-in to win the Mirror Ball.
Next week on Dancing with the Stars, Olivia Newton-John will be the guest judge for Famous Dances Week and another couple will be eliminated.
