RHONJ's Joe Giudice angers viewers by comparing Teresa's prison to 'low budget spa'
Their lavish lifestyle is a part of what landed Real Housewives of New Jersey stars Teresa and Joe Giudice behind bars, but during the first episode of Bravo's special series RHONJ: Teresa Checks In, fans learned that her life on the inside is still better than most.
While the pronunciation of the family name still seems to be ever-changing, it appears that Teresa Giudice of The Real Housewives of New Jersey has remained in the lap of luxury while serving her prison sentence in Danbury, Connecticut.
When fans thought of the housewife behind bars, they weren't exactly expecting to find out that she was taking yoga classes and watching The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Atlanta, as they did when tuning into RHONJ: Teresa Checks In.
As her husband, Joe Giudice, describes it (which their lawyer then co-signs), Teresa is basically staying at a "low budget spa" until Dec. 23, when she'll be reunited with her family, just in time for Christmas.
Great for Teresa. Quite upsetting to fans and haters alike.
Hearing her now very grown-up daughter, Gia, say that her mother has never looked better, didn't gain "Tre" much more sympathy, nor did her jumping off the phone to run to her exercise class. But it was the tears in the eyes of both Gia and Joe that reminded viewers that prison is still prison. Regardless of how nice her surroundings may be, there's still a family missing a wife and mother, and a mother missing her kids and the special moments in their lives, no matter how big or small.
However, for the Giudice family, every moment is big. So big that an eighth-grade dance deserves as much fanfare as a wedding. Special place settings, roses, balloons, a stylist... all organized by Teresa. No, not Joe's cousin — his wife. The one in prison. The one who now has a million mothers who aren't in prison hanging their heads in shame.
Like her affable husband, Teresa's lawyer comparing her to a mob boss making moves while serving time, was another cringe-worthy quote that we're sure the family is wishing Bravo would have edited out. But the reality is that while she's not a member of the mob, Teresa Giudice is certainly handling prison like a boss.
According to Gia, at the time, the couple's younger daughters were told that their mother was away at work. A lie? Not exactly, because between her yoga poses and Housewives-watching, Teresa is also penning another book. This one, likely to be another best-seller, will be about her life behind bars. With that and her post-prison interviews, mommy's "work" will be netting the family a pretty penny.
