Well, this certainly isn’t a surprising endorsement when you think about.
And good old Willie himself tells us why. Duck Dynasty star Willie Robertson stepped out in favor of Donald Trump for president at a recent official campaign visit to Oklahoma at the Oklahoma State Fair.
Trump called Robertson onstage in a super-classy manner, saying, “Where’s Willie? Where the hell is Willie? Willie, get over here! Look at this guy!”
Robertson took the stage wearing his “uniform” of a T-shirt, black sunglasses and American Flag bandanna, and of course sporting his trademark beard and long hair.
He briefly spoke, saying, “I do like me some Trump, I gotta admit. Here’s the deal. We’re both successful businessmen, we both have pretty big shows on television and we both have wives that are 1,000 times better-looking than us. So I like Trump.”
I can only guess Robertson is referring to Trump’s most current wife, or maybe one of his two previous wives. I’m not sure. There is so much wrapped up in one short exchange I can’t even begin to unravel it other than to say it is one of the most banal and pandering comments I’ve ever heard.
Both fans and critics of Trump, Robertson and Robertson’s show are weighing in online to air their grievances with the unholy alliance, too.
One commenter pointed out that this is not only a ploy to stay relevant by Robertson but expressed what they think might really be going on here by saying, “Why does this not surprise me at all?? This hillbilly is all about the attention just like Trump. Heck, he will probably be Trump’s VP…”
This person wasn’t the only one to think this was a meeting alluding to the future. Another said, “Of course he does [love Trump]!!! They should become running mates.” Most people expressed their general disgust through sarcasm — trolls after my own heart — saying things like, “Together, they’re going to make America great again!” eye-rolling emoji and all.
And if you needed just one other thought, I’ll leave you with this, the most recent comment at the time of publication: “another reason not to vote for trump [sic].”
